We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is,
seen and unseen.

I believe in one God,
the awesome Creator of everything,
the universe, the stars, and even me!

My attempt

Ok so had a chat with a couple of folks this morning about my attempt to rewrite the creed. It was an encouragement and a challenge! Looking at my attempt and comparing to the original I immediately see that I have made it personal and not corporate. But have I created heresy! The Nicene Creed was written to challenge heresy at the time and was needed to emphasise the truth about God. It is not the Bible but sits alongside it saying this is what the Bible says. So in my attempt I dropped the word Father…. So I definitely need another go.

This is the beginning of the Nicene Creed, a statement of belief central to Christianity. It was formulated at the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD and expanded at the First Council of Constantinople in 381 AD.

There is one God,
All-powerful, the source of all,
Creator of the universe,
Of everything we know
And everything beyond our understanding.

We affirm our belief in the one true God, our Father, who holds infinite power and authority. He is the architect of the universe, the creator of all things visible and invisible, known and unknown.

A couple of thoughts but I have been recommended a book to read. I’ll tuck into that and come back to this.
