We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about the Twin Ponds and Stream Project! This ambitious project, which aims to create a haven for wildlife, has received a generous sponsorship from Pondxpert.

Pondxpert, a leading supplier of pond equipment and products, has stepped up to provide vital resources and support for this initiative. Their commitment to creating and maintaining healthy aquatic environments makes them the perfect partner for this project.
You might be wondering why we’re adding twin ponds to our farm. Well, the vision is to create two distinct but interconnected habitats. The bottom pond will be specifically for our ducks, providing them with a safe and enriching environment to paddle and play. The top pond, on the other hand, is designed as a tranquil haven for all sorts of wildlife, encouraging biodiversity and offering a peaceful retreat for nature to flourish.
Connecting these two ponds, the stream adds a vital element of noise and movement, creating another interesting feature on the farm. It’s amazing how even these relatively small ponds will bring exciting new wildlife to our farm, adding an eco-structure that simply wasn’t there before. We hope to see an increase in insects, amphibians, and birds, all contributing to a healthier, more vibrant ecosystem.
To make this project even more sustainable, we’re also setting up an off-grid water storage system with the help of rain butts contributed by South West Water. We’ll be collecting run-off water from the duck house straight into 4 interconnected rain water butts. The rain butts will be connected, allowing water to flow backwards and forwards from one butt into another as needed. A solar-powered pump, placed in the first butt, will then pump water through a hosepipe connected to two soaker hoses in the polytunnel, allowing for efficient watering first thing in the morning. Additionally, we’ll be collecting more water from the shed roof, which can be pumped into this system if required.
Pondxpert have also supplied two additional solar-powered water pumps. One will be used to pump water to the top pond, keeping it topped up, and the second will pump water from the duck pond into the top pond via pipes laid in the ground. This will ensure a constant flow of water and maintain the health of both pond ecosystems.
Whether you’re a seasoned pond enthusiast or just starting out, Pondxpert has everything you need to create your own beautiful and thriving water feature. From pumps and filters to liners, their extensive range caters to all pond sizes and styles.
We encourage everyone to ask about PondXpert products at their local garden centre or aquatic retailer. You can also use their website to find a local Pondxpert stockist near you.
