David was a really brave and strong guy in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was a shepherd who became a king!
David is a main character in the Old Testament books 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Chronicles, and 2 Chronicles. He’s also mentioned in several other books, and nearly half of the Psalms are attributed to him.
He fought a giant named Goliath with just a sling and some stones. Later, he became the king of Israel and wrote songs and poems. David’s stories teach us about being brave, and trusting in God.
David and Goliath
Once upon a time in the land of Israel, there was a young shepherd named David. One day, the Israelites were facing their enemies, the Philistines, and they had a giant warrior named Goliath. Goliath was really, really big and strong, and he challenged the Israelites to send out someone to fight him.
Now, everyone was scared, but David, even though he was just a shepherd boy, said he would do it. He didn’t wear heavy armour or use a big sword. Instead, he took his sling and some stones.
When David faced Goliath, he trusted in God and aimed his sling with great skill. He launched a single stone that hit Goliath right on the forehead, and Goliath fell down. David’s bravery and trust in God showed that even the smallest person can do great things with faith.
The story teaches us that no matter how big our problems seem, we can overcome them with courage and trust in God. It’s like a reminder that you don’t need to be the biggest or strongest to make a difference; sometimes, all you need is a brave heart and faith.
You can read the story in the Bible in 1 Samuel 17. It is exciting.
Despite doing loads of stuff wrong… he was described as “A man after God’s own heart.”
