Wild Adventure: What Jesus Did in Mark 5

Have you ever felt totally out of control? Like you’re being pulled in a million directions? That’s kind of what’s happening in Mark 5! Buckle up, because Jesus is about to show us his power over even the wildest situations.

The Scary Man in the Tombs

Imagine this: Jesus crosses a lake and gets to a place with tombs carved into cliffs. Suddenly, a man with demons in him comes running out, screaming! This guy sounds terrifying, right? People must have been scared to even be near him. But Jesus wasn’t afraid. 

Jesus Talks to the Demons

Jesus talks to the demons inside the man, asking them their name. They reply, “Legion,” which is like saying there’s a whole army of demons inside him! That’s a lot of bad stuff going on. 

Sending the Demons into Pigs?

Jesus tells the demons to leave the man and go into a herd of pigs nearby. The demons obey, and the pigs go crazy, rushing down a cliff and drowning in the lake! It might seem strange, but Jesus is showing his power over evil spirits. It’s like kicking them out and sending them packing! 

The Healed Man

The man is now completely healed and calm. He’s sitting at Jesus’ feet, finally free! The people who saw this were amazed.

What Does This Mean for Us?

This story shows us a few cool things:

Jesus is stronger than anything, even demons

No matter how bad things seem, Jesus has the power to overcome them. 

Jesus wants to help us

Just like he helped the scared man, Jesus wants to help us when we’re feeling out of control or scared. 

We can talk to Jesus about anything

He’s always listening, no matter what’s going on in our lives.

Being a Disciple

So, how can we be disciples (followers) of Jesus today? Here are some ideas:

Talk to Jesus!

Pray whenever you want, tell him your worries, and ask him for help. 

Stand up for what’s right

Be kind to others, even if they’re different from you. 

Show God’s love

Do nice things for people and spread a little bit of sunshine wherever you go.

Remember, even though you’re young, you can still make a difference!  Jesus is with you every step of the way, just like he was with the scary man in the tombs.
