Touching Faith: The Power of Bold Belief – Mark 5 v 25-34

Verse 25-26: “And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.”

There’s a woman who’s been dealing with a health issue for twelve long years. She’s been through a horrendous time, spent all her money, and instead of getting better, things are actually getting worse. It’s a never-ending battle.

Verse 27: “She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment.”

Despite all the struggles, this woman hears about Jesus—the healer, the miracle-worker. And what does she do? She decides to take matters into her own hands. In the midst of a bustling crowd, she sneaks up and touches the edge of Jesus’ clothes.

Verse 28: “For she said, ‘If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.'”

Did you catch that? She’s not thinking, “If I shake hands with Jesus” or “If I get a personal audience.” No, she believes that just a touch of his clothes is enough for a miracle. That’s bold belief right there!

Verse 29: “And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.”

Right there in the middle of the crowd, something incredible happens. Instantly, she feels her body change. The health issue that haunted her for twelve years is gone. Healing, just like that!

Verse 30-32: “And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my garments?’ And his disciples said to him, ‘You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, “Who touched me?”‘ And he looked around to see who had done it.”

Jesus, the ultimate healer, feels something. He senses power going out from him. And he stops everything. “Hold up, someone touched me, and it’s not just a regular crowd touch.” The disciples, probably confused, “Jesus, everyone’s pressing in on you. What do you mean, ‘Who touched me?'”

Verse 33-34: “But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.'”

The woman, realising she can’t slip away unnoticed, steps forward in fear and trembling. She spills the beans, telling Jesus the whole story. And what does Jesus say? “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” Can you feel the power of those words?

This woman doesn’t just believe that Jesus can heal her; she believes that a mere touch of his clothes can do the trick. That’s bold! It’s not just faith; it’s bold faith. She doesn’t go for the front-row seat. She doesn’t demand attention. She sneaks in, believing that even a low-key touch can unleash a miracle. The moment she touches Jesus’ clothes, healing happens instantly. No waiting period, no delays. It’s done. Even in a bustling crowd, Jesus knows when someone touches him with a different kind of touch. He feels it when faith reaches out. The woman, initially in fear, steps into the spotlight. Jesus doesn’t scold her; he calls her “Daughter,” honours her bold faith, and sets her free.

Don’t settle for timid faith. Be bold! Believe that Jesus can move mountains, and sometimes, all it takes is a touch. Because, you don’t need a VIP ticket for Jesus to notice you. Even the sneakiest, quietest reach-out doesn’t escape his attention. Healing, breakthroughs, and miracles can happen in an instant. God’s not stuck on a slow-motion setting.

When you reach out in faith, Jesus feels it. Your faith doesn’t go unnoticed. It triggers something powerful in the heavenly realm. Like the woman, step out of fear into freedom. Jesus doesn’t shame you; he honours your faith, calls you “Daughter” or “Son,” and sets you free.
