We will see Jesus doing some pretty amazing things. This chapter is like a highlight reel of Jesus’ power over the physical world, demons, sickness, and even death. Ready to be amazed?
The Wild Man of Gadara (verses 1-20)
First, Jesus meets a man who’s totally out of control. He lives in a graveyard, no one can restrain him, and he’s covered in cuts from trying to hurt himself. The man is tormented by a whole bunch of demons, but when Jesus shows up, the demons recognise his power and beg him not to send them away.
- Think about it: Have you ever felt like something was controlling you? Maybe it’s a bad habit, a fear, or even just a negative thought pattern. Jesus has power over those things too!
Healing the Bleeding Woman (verses 21-34)
Next, a woman who’s been bleeding for twelve long years pushes through a crowd just to touch Jesus’ clothes. She knows that even a touch will heal her. And she’s right! Immediately, the bleeding stops, and she feels totally different.
- Think about it: What are some things you’re hoping Jesus will heal in your life? It might not be a physical illness, but maybe it’s a broken heart or a difficult relationship. Jesus cares about all of it.
Raising Jairus’ Daughter (verses 35-43)
Just when you think things can’t get any more intense, a synagogue leader named Jairus begs Jesus to heal his dying daughter. But before Jesus even arrives, the girl dies. Everyone thinks it’s hopeless, but Jesus tells them, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” Then he takes the girl by the hand and says, “Little girl, get up!” And she does! She’s alive and well!
- Think about it: Have you ever faced a situation that seemed totally impossible? Maybe it was a bad mark you couldn’t change or a friendship that fell apart. Jesus can bring life to even the most hopeless situations.
