Interrupted: A Story of Faith and Healing – Mark 5 v 21-24

Verse 21-24: “And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.’ And he went with him.”

Jesus, fresh from a crazy encounter with a demon-possessed man, steps back onto the shore. But there’s no time to chill because a massive crowd is waiting. And then, out of this sea of faces, steps Jairus—a big shot, a ruler of the synagogue. But guess what? He’s not strutting around with pride. Nope, he falls at Jesus’ feet and spills his heart out. His daughter is sick, at-the-point-of-death sick. And what does he do? He doesn’t send a formal invitation. He implores Jesus with urgency, “Come, lay your hands on her, make her well, and let her live!” And without missing a beat, Jesus says, “Let’s roll.”

Jairus doesn’t care about the crowd or the protocol. His faith interrupts the norm. He knows that Jesus is the one with the healing touch, and he’s not afraid to ask for it. He doesn’t hold back. He’s not shy about his request. He knows that Jesus can make a difference, and he goes straight to the source, laying it all out there.

Can you feel the desperation in Jairus’ plea? His little girl is in a critical condition. Yet, in that desperation, there’s hope—a hope that Jesus can change everything. Jesus doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t say, “Let me check my diary” or “Maybe later.” No, he responds instantly. He is saying, “I’m with you, let’s go.”

Don’t hold back when you’re talking to Jesus. Be bold. He’s not scared of your big asks. In fact, he loves it when you bring your biggest dreams and toughest challenges to him. And at the same time, ditch the formality and go straight to Him.

In the toughest moments, there’s hope. Even when it seems impossible, Jesus can turn things around. Let your desperation fuel your hope. Jesus doesn’t keep you waiting. He’s not on a ‘Jesus-time’ diary. When you call, he responds instantly.
