Verse 7-8: “Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.”
Jesus, is seeking chill time by the lake with His disciples but! A massive crowd shows up. This is people from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, and regions all over the place. They’ve heard about Jesus, and they want to see a miracle.
Verse 9-10: “Because of the crowd, he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.”
The people are going all out to touch Him. They’ve heard about the healing power, and they want in on it. So he gets a boat ready.
Verse 11: “Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God.'”
The impure spirits, the demons, recognise Jesus. They can’t help but acknowledge his divine authority. Even in the midst of the chaos, the spiritual realm is bowing down to Jesus.
Verse 12: “But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.”
Jesus shuts down the demons. It’s not time for them to tell people about Jesus being God. Jesus has a plan and a purpose, and it’s not about demons doing the promotional work.
Jesus attracts a diverse and massive following. People from all over are drawn to him. It’s a reminder that his appeal goes beyond cultural and geographical boundaries.
We also learn that Jesus is intentional about when and how his identity is revealed. It’s not about keeping secrets but about the right timing for the ultimate plan.
