“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Luke 12:40 NET
Okay, let’s unpack this. First off, who is the “Son of Man”? That’s Jesus, referring to himself. And what’s He talking about coming back for? It’s about His second coming, when He’ll return to earth in all His glory.
So, what’s the big deal about being “ready”?
It’s not about stocking up on canned goods or building a bunker. It’s about being spiritually prepared. It’s about having a relationship with Jesus, living a life that reflects His love, and being ready to meet Him face-to-face whenever that day comes.
Why the surprise factor?
Jesus is clear – He’s not giving us a date and time. It’s like a pop quiz in life! We need to be living in a state of readiness all the time, not just when we think the end is near.
What does this mean for us TODAY?
- Don’t put off getting to know Jesus: Today is the day to start (or deepen) your relationship with Him. Don’t wait for a “better” time or until you feel “good enough”. He loves you just as you are, right now.
- Live a life that matters: Make choices that reflect your faith. Be kind, forgive others, stand up for what’s right, and share God’s love with those around you.
- Don’t get caught up in the hype: There will always be people predicting the end of the world. Don’t let that distract you from living a life that honours God today.
Questions to think about
- If Jesus came back today, would you be ready?
- What changes might you need to make in your life to be more prepared?
- How can you live each day with a sense of purpose and meaning, knowing that Jesus could return at any moment?
Remember: Being ready isn’t about fear or anxiety. It’s about living with hope and anticipation, knowing that the best is yet to come!
