Last time, we witnessed Jesus’ epic entrance, His baptism, and wilderness training. Now, it’s time for the next chapter in this incredible story.
Verse 14-15: “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. ‘The time has come,’ he said. ‘The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!'”
We now have a change of direction as John fades out of the scene (which he told us he would do) and Jesus steps in. His message. “The kingdom of God is here, and it’s time to change direction and embrace the good news.”
Verse 16-18: “As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
Here’s where it gets exciting! Jesus invites ordinary fishermen to join Him on this journey. It’s not about their skills with nets; it’s about saying yes to an adventure that goes beyond what they could ever imagine.
Verse 19-20: “When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay, he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.”
And the adventure continues! James and John, in the middle of their work, get this unexpected call from Jesus. Without hesitation, they drop everything and follow Him. It’s like being chosen for a mission beyond anything they thought possible.
Jesus is calling each one of us to follow Him, to be part of His kingdom mission.
