Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,
Isaiah 40 v 28-31
or, whine, Israel, saying,
“God has lost track of me.
He doesn’t care what happens to me”?
Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts.
He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.
And he knows everything, inside and out.
He energises those who get tired,
gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.
Waiting on the Lord is about setting aside your own abilities and skills and activity to trust God in his abilities and skills and activity. It’s about timing – God’s not yours. God is at work, even though we might not perceive it. His loving activity and timing are for our best; even when we can’t clearly see this, we take it by faith because we know and trust his character.
God wants us to focus on him and his deliverance, not the circumstances. He might be calling you to rest, but he is asking you to have hope and confidence in him; and to set aside our own agenda, skills, abilities.
We need to continue to actively serve God whilst waiting patiently for him to accomplish his plans.
While waiting for God, why don’t you pick a scripture that is appropriate to your situation and make a card or add it as a background picture to your phone. Anytime you start worrying, look at that scripture.
Have mercy on us O God, Father almighty.
immeasurable God.
patient God.
incorruptible God.
immortal God.
eternal God.
perfect God.
merciful God.
wonderful God.
heavenly Father, who abides in heaven,
Have mercy on us. Amen

When we truly wait on God, the fruit of his spirit can grow and mature in our lives. The fruit is evidence of his Holy Spirit at work. We often look for signs and wonders or immediate answers to prayer. However, if we take time out to develop relationship through prayer, reading our Bibles and living out His commands, we will see him at work in the ordinary and mundane. We often wrestle with timing or emotions. It’s important to remember to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven Ecclesiastes 3. God is in control and he walks with us and works within us. It’s exciting that God has big plans for our short lives to further his kingdom into eternity.
