Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? Job chapter 28 is like a treasure hunt, but instead of gold or jewels, we’re searching for something far more valuable: wisdom.
The Unseen World of Mining (Job 28:1-11)
Job starts by painting a picture of the dangerous and difficult work of miners. They go deep into the earth, risking their lives to find precious metals. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most valuable things are the hardest to find.

Wisdom’s Elusive Nature (Job 28:12-19)
Job asks a big question: “Where can wisdom be found?” He compares wisdom to rare jewels and metals, showing that it’s more precious than anything we can dig up from the earth. It’s something hidden, something we can’t buy or trade.
- Study Questions:
- What are some of the things Job compares wisdom to? Why do you think he chose these comparisons?
- Why is wisdom so valuable, even more so than precious stones?
The Source of True Wisdom (Job 28:20-28)
Finally, Job reveals the answer: wisdom comes from God. It’s not something we can figure out on our own. It’s a gift, and the key to finding it is to fear God and turn away from evil.
- Study Questions:
- What does it mean to “fear God”?
- How does turning away from evil help us find wisdom?
- How can we seek wisdom in our own lives?
What Does This Mean for You?
As a young person, you’re in a time of life where you’re making big decisions and figuring out who you are. It’s easy to get caught up in the pursuit of money, success, or popularity. But Job 28 reminds us that there’s something far more valuable than any of those things: wisdom.
Wisdom is the key to making good choices, building strong relationships, and living a life that matters. It helps us understand the world around us and our place in it. And the good news is, it’s available to all of us. All we have to do is ask God for it.
