Okay, so you’ve probably heard of the Ten Commandments. Maybe you think they’re just a bunch of old rules written by some grumpy guys thousands of years ago. But hold up! These commandments are actually like a cheat sheet for living a truly awesome and meaningful life. They’re not about restricting you; they’re about setting you free to be your best self.
Let’s break it down
1. No other gods before me. This is about loyalty. Who are you truly committed to? Is it your phone, your friends, or something bigger than yourself? Putting God first means having a solid foundation for your life.
2. No idols. We don’t bow down to statues any more, but what about the things we worship today? Money? Fame? Social media? Idols distract us from what really matters.
3. Don’t misuse God’s name. Using God’s name to curse or swear cheapens something sacred. Respecting God’s name shows respect for something bigger than ourselves.
4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Take a break! We all need time to recharge and reconnect with what’s important. Make time for rest, reflection, and spending time with loved ones.
5. Honour your father and mother. Your parents aren’t always perfect, but they deserve your respect. Honouring them means showing gratitude for all they’ve done for you.
6. Do not murder. This seems obvious, right? But it’s also about respecting all life. Are you treating others with kindness and compassion?
7. Do not commit adultery. This is about loyalty and commitment in relationships. Are you being truthful and faithful to the people you love?
8. Do not steal. Taking something that doesn’t belong to you is wrong. It’s also about honesty and integrity. Are you earning your own way?
9. Do not give false testimony against your neighbour. Don’t lie or spread gossip. Your words have power. Are you using them to build others up or tear them down?
10. Do not covet. Don’t be jealous of what others have. Focus on your own blessings and be grateful for what you have.
