These final verses of Esther may seem like a simple wrap-up, but they hold important truths for young people navigating a world where faith can feel hidden and uncertain.
What Happened?
- King Ahasuerus continued to expand his kingdom, imposing taxes on his vast territories.
- Mordecai, Esther’s cousin and adopted father, became a powerful figure, second only to the king. He worked for the good of his people and sought peace for all Jews.
Why is this Important?
- God’s unseen hand: Throughout the book, God’s name is never mentioned. Yet, His providence is woven into every event. Mordecai and Esther’s rise to prominence was not mere luck, but part of God’s plan to protect His people.
- Faithfulness over fame: Mordecai could have easily sought personal gain, but he remained dedicated to his community, seeking their welfare and peace. His influence came from his character, not just his position.
- Quiet strength: The book doesn’t end with a dramatic showdown or a miraculous victory. Instead, it shows the lasting impact of faithfulness in ordinary life. Even when God seems silent, He is at work.
What Does This Mean for Us?
- Trust in God’s timing: Sometimes, God’s plans unfold slowly and quietly. Even when we can’t see Him working, we can trust that He is in control.
- Seek the good of others: True influence comes from serving others, not just ourselves. Like Mordecai, we can use our gifts and opportunities to make a positive difference in the world.
- Live with integrity: Character matters more than popularity. When we stay true to our values and faith, even in challenging times, we reflect God’s light to those around us.
