As a youth worker here in Cornwall, I see first-hand the incredible potential of young people. They are creative, passionate, and brimming with ideas about how to make their communities better. But all too often, their voices are silenced or ignored. That’s why advocating for their rights is such a crucial part of my work.
I believe that every young person deserves to be heard and respected. They have the right to a safe and inclusive environment, to quality education, and to opportunities to grow and thrive.
In my work, I strive to:
Amplify young people’s voices: I create safe spaces where young people can express their views and concerns without fear of judgment. I encourage them to participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
Challenge inequalities: I work to address the systemic barriers that prevent young people from reaching their full potential. This includes tackling issues like poverty, discrimination, and lack of access to resources.
Build partnerships: I collaborate with other youth workers, community organisations, and policymakers to create a more youth-friendly community.
I’m inspired by the resilience and determination of the young people I work with. They are the future of Cornwall, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to support them.
A Cornish Perspective
Cornwall is a unique place with a strong sense of community. I believe that this community spirit should extend to our young people. We need to create a society where every young person feels valued and supported, a society where their voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
A Personal Note
This work is deeply personal to me. Seeing young people growing up in Cornwall, I experience first-hand the importance of having supportive adults in their lives. I want to be that support for the young people I work with today. I want to help them find their voices, pursue their passions, and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
If you’re a young person in Cornwall and you’re looking for support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. There are many organisations and individuals here who are dedicated to helping you thrive.
