Okay, imagine getting handed a rulebook, but not just any rulebook, it’s like, THE rulebook, straight from God himself! That’s what happened to Moses way back in the day. He climbed this massive mountain called Mount Sinai, and God gave him the 10 Commandments. Now, before you roll your eyes and think “rules are boring”, hear me out. These aren’t just random rules to make your life miserable; they’re actually a guide to living a life that’s truly awesome and free.
Let’s check out this epic rulebook
- No other gods before me. Basically, put God first in your life. Don’t let your phone, your love interest, or anything else become more important than Him.
- No idols. This means don’t worship stuff like money, fame, or the perfect selfie. Those things will never truly satisfy you.
- Don’t misuse God’s name. Don’t use God’s name to swear or curse. It’s about showing respect for something way bigger than yourself.
- Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Take a break! Chill out, spend time with your family, and recharge your batteries.
- Honour your father and mother. Show your parents some respect, even when they’re driving you crazy.
- Do not murder. Yeah, this one’s pretty obvious. Don’t hurt others.
- Do not commit adultery. Be faithful in your relationships. Don’t cheat or mess around with other people’s hearts.
- Do not steal. Don’t take what’s not yours. Earn your own stuff and be honest.
- Do not give false testimony against your neighbour. Don’t lie or spread gossip. Your words have power, so use them for good.
- Do not covet. Don’t be jealous of what other people have. Be grateful for what you have and work hard for what you want.
Why should I care about these ancient rules?
- They show us how to live a good life: Following the 10 Commandments helps us build strong relationships, make wise choices, and live with integrity.
- They protect us from harm: When we follow God’s rules, we avoid a lot of the pain and consequences that come from making bad choices.
- They point us to Jesus: The 10 Commandments show us how much we need a Saviour. We can’t perfectly follow these rules on our own, but Jesus came to fulfil them for us and make a way for us to be forgiven.
